SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – State Treasurer Larry Pack was in Kanawha County on Thursday, March 5 to present a more than $9,700 unclaimed property check to the City of South Charleston during his Office’s “Treasury Day” at South Charleston City Hall. The Treasurer’s Office found unclaimed property for 43 residents of Kanawha County totaling $6,220.
“Our local governments need all the help they can get so they can continue to serve their communities. We’re proud to give the City of South Charleston and its citizens the same opportunity to put their money back to work,” Treasurer Pack said. “I encourage more people and organizations to check our unclaimed property database because you never know if there may be funds in your name.”
On Thursday evening, Treasurer Pack joined South Charleston Mayor Frank Mullens to present the unclaimed property check, valued at $9,770.33, which came from mostly group policy benefits and miscellaneous checks.
“I want to thank State Treasurer Larry Pack and his staff for coming to Council meeting and presenting the city with a check for approximately $9,700,” Mayor Mullens said. “Larry has always been a great supporter of all communities, and we will be sure to use this money in a way the has a positive impact on our City.”
The Treasurer’s Office has more than $536 million worth of unclaimed property listings in its database. Currently, Kanawha County has more than 561,000 unclaimed property listings worth nearly $81 million for individuals, businesses and organizations.
Last September, the Treasurer’s Office hosted its first “Treasury Day” in the City of Huntington where more than $13,000 in unclaimed property was located for 32 residents. The Treasurer’s Office helped return nearly $53,000 to 41 residents during another “Treasury Day” at Hurricane City Hall earlier this year.
