Barbara Sue (Hite) Shiley

Barbara Sue (Hite) Shiley, 88, of Lewisburg, WV, passed away on February 24, 2026. She was born January 29, 1938, and raised in Valley Head, WV, by Walker Fred Hite and Silvia Violet (Turner) Hite.

Full of unstoppable energy, Barbara Sue was a Marshall University alumna, a special educator and advocate for autistic children, an avid crafter, and a supporter of the United Methodist Church. She loved family, beach trips, and exploring West Virginia’s nooks and crannies.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ray Virden Hannah and Reverend Billy Cooper Shiley; and her siblings, Anna Marjorie “Marge” Starr, Walker “Bud” Hite Jr., Otha Harold “Jiggs” Hite, and Linda Mae Gould.

She is survived by her daughter, Raye Guy; sisters, Wanda Corder and Doris Long; and grandchildren, Ashley Guy and wife, Jean, and Margaret Guy and husband, Shaun Curtis; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-grandchildren. She described her extended family to all as being “the best in the world.”

Per her wishes, no service will be held. Donations in her memory may be made to the Autism Society of America or your local United Methodist Church.
