FAIRLEA- After jumping ahead 33-4 after one quarter, forcing 32 turnovers, and grabbing 42 rebounds to 19, the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans had an easy night of work–to put it lightly–in Thursday night’s 102-29 Class AAA, Region III victory over the Pikeview Lady Tigers at the Spartan Gym in Fairlea.

East, the 1-seed, trailed 2-0 early and then never trailed against beyond that point.

On a night that every player on the team scored, including the first varsity points ever for Adyson Donovan (4) and Braylin Defibaugh (5), The Lady Spartans were able to let their starters rest for the majority of the night and get the young girls, who are the future of the team, some quality varsity minutes.

East led 54-11 at halftime and eclipsed the century mark on the scoreboard on a Donovan free throw.

Ava Workman scored 23 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead Greenbrier East. Mackenna McClure had 16 points, 8 steals, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Kennedy Stewart added 14 points, including four 3-pointers and 7 assists, and Hannah Fuller contributed 12 points and 9 rebounds inside.

East shot 48 percent from the field.

The Lady Spartans (23-0) will now host Nicholas County next Tuesday, March 3 in the regional co-final and with a berth to the state tournament in Charleston on the line. The Lady Grizzlies defeated Ripley on Thursday night and Greenbrier East beat Nicholas County 73-34 back on January 16.

Scoring by Quarter:

P:  4 7 6 12 – 29

GE: 33 21 24 24 – 102

Individual Scoring:

GE- Ava Workman 23, Kennedy Stewart 14, Kiki Bagut 8, Natalee Sibold 5, Kinsley Cole 4, Kala Waller 6, Paige Totten 4, Maddie Baker 1, Braylin Defibaugh 5, Mackenna McClure 16, Adyson Donovan 4, Hannah Fuller 12
