RONCEVERTE W.Va. (WVDN) — A historic light fixture that once adorned the Ellis House, located at 126 Pocohontas Avenue in Ronceverte, remains a missing piece of local heritage. The fixture vanished before a recent change in property ownership and has not been recovered. In a surprising development, it has come to light that the piece was sold from Roberts Antique and Wine Store in downtown Lewisburg about three weeks ago. The new owner reportedly purchased the item and subsequently resold it, unaware of its provenance. The fixture is now in the hands of unknown buyers, and the best hope is to locate who purchased it.
“Our sole goal is to see the fixture returned to the Ellis House, where it belonged for decades,” Felicity Morgan stated. “If compensation was the reason for its removal, a reward is being considered for its safe return. No legal action will be pursued, and no charges will be filed. If anonymity is preferred, the item can be left on the Ellis House porch with no questions asked. The restoration effort seeks to preserve the history of the home and restore it with the elements that made it what it was.”
They are asking for the community’s help. If you or someone you know recently purchased or handled the fixture, please share the information about its whereabouts. If you are the current owner or have information about the location, project officials ask that you consider returning it to Ellis House.
The fixture survived more than 25 years of abandonment and was part of the Ellis House for generations. Restoring it is part of a broader effort to preserve the property’s history.
