LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – Carnegie Classics Concert Series continues with Naughty, Naughty, Mozart on Saturday, March 7, at 7 p.m. Hosted by world-class pianist Barbara Nissman, a Steinway “legend” and a 2023 inductee into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame, these concerts combine great music with informal chat to introduce classical music to new audiences, as well as inspiring and entertaining all music lovers. Barbara takes us on a magical journey into the world of her favorite composers. She makes listening easy and music meaningful as she shares her joy and passion for her composer “friends” and their great music with all of us. No education is required— just a set of ears to listen and an open heart to receive the joys of this wonderful music!
The second program of this year’s Carnegie Classics series, Naughty, Naughty, Mozart features Barbara with five of her musician friends showcasing the great music by this master. The musicians will perform Mozart’s popular “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” (A Little Night Music) and then join Barbara to perform one of his great piano concertos. He wrote 27 of them in his short lifetime.
A true prodigy, Mozart composed tunes at the keyboard when he was three years old and we will learn why Barbara calls him “Naughty, Naughty Mozart!” Barbara also introduces us to the Italian composer Domenico Scarlatti who wrote music for the harpsichord, the instrument used before the piano was invented.
This is the fourth successful season of Carnegie Classics, a three-part concert series designed to introduce classical music to new audiences, as well as inspiring and entertaining veteran music enthusiasts. Hosted by Steinway “legend” and recent 2023 West Virginia Music Hall of Fame inductee, Nissman invites the listener to travel with her to explore the composers’ world. She makes listening easy and music meaningful, as she shares her joy and passion for her composer “friends” and their great music with all of us. No education is required— just a set of ears to listen and an open heart to receive the joys of music.
“What a joy for me to return for another season of great music performed on the beautiful Steinway at our wonderful Carnegie Hall,” exclaims Barbara. “With this series we are expanding the audience for classical music, and it is so gratifying for me to share with my community the music that I love so much. We all need more joy in our lives these days, and music has the power to transport us into a magical world.”
Tickets are $30/adults and $20/students. Thanks to the Carnegie Cardinal Fund, Greenbrier County Students (grades K-12) attend for free, but still must reserve a seat.
