LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) — A local high school senior has earned a spot in one of the most selective academic programs in the state.
Kimberlie Butler, a senior at Greenbrier East High School, was recently admitted to the Marshall University Honors College for the upcoming academic year.
Admission to the college is highly competitive. While the baseline requirements typically include a minimum 3.5 GPA and an ACT score of 26 or a SAT score of 1230, the actual pool of admitted students often exceeds those marks. For the 2024 cohort, the average high school GPA was 4.22.
The Honors College looks for more than just test scores, seeking students who demonstrate curiosity, leadership, self-motivation, and a commitment to community service.
Butler’s admission places her in an elite group of incoming freshmen. Out of approximately 13,000 students admitted to Marshall University, only about 230 are invited to join the Honors College.
