SUTTON- The Greenbrier West High School wrestling team delivered a strong performance at the recent Braxton County Invitational, finishing seventh overall in a highly competitive field of varsity squads from across West Virginia.

The two-day event was held January 16–17, 2026, in Braxton County, WV, drawing some of the state’s top high school wrestling programs.

Despite tough competition, the Cavaliers fought hard throughout the tournament. Greenbrier West finished the event with 184.5 team points, earning seventh place among more than 20 participating schools.

Top teams included Williamstown (1st), Hoover (2nd), Keyser (3rd), Braxton County (4th), East Fairmont (5th), and Roane County (6th), rounding out the podium ahead of Greenbrier West.

Individuals placing for the Cavaliers were Matthew Kesterson — 4th place, 113 lbs , Anderson Walker — 4th place, 144 lbs, and Trey Franklin.

Heavyweight Individual performances were a key part of Greenbrier West’s success. Several wrestlers competed in challenging weight classes and contributed points in both championship and consolation pools, showcasing grit and determination. Their efforts helped the Cavaliers earn a strong team finish and valuable experience against some of the region’s best competitors.

The Cavaliers will travel Friday, January 23, to Woodrow Wilson High School for a quad match featuring Greenbrier East, Greenbrier West, Princeton, and Woodrow Wilson, before heading to the WVSAZ Tournament the following weekend.
