SUMMERSVILLE- Greenbrier West wrestling put together a strong showing over the weekend, finishing ninth overall at the West Virginia Army National Guard Duals, one of the state’s most competitive early-season tournaments.
There were 26 teams that traveled to Summersville this past weekend from three states.
The Cavaliers battled through a deep field of teams from across West Virginia, facing multiple ranked programs in a fast-paced dual-meet format. Greenbrier West showed depth and resilience throughout the event, earning key wins and competitive performances across the lineup.
Several wrestlers stepped up in crucial moments, securing pins and hard-fought decisions that helped the Cavaliers climb the team standings. The squad’s ability to respond after tough matches highlighted both its preparation and determination as the season continues to take shape. Coaches were pleased with the team’s effort against high-level competition, noting the tournament provided valuable experience that will pay dividends later in the season.
The duals tested conditioning, focus, and lineup consistency — areas the Cavaliers showed continued improvement in as the weekend progressed. With a ninth-place finish at a major statewide event, Greenbrier West continues to build momentum in the season and will look to carry that confidence into upcoming matches and tournaments.
Greenbrier West travels to Independence on Wednesday evening for a quad where Herbert Hoover and Shady Spring will join as well for a quick night of wrestling.
This week, like any other, the Cavaliers always look forward to hearing from Coach Tincher to see who this week’s wrestler of the week is. We have Co-Wrestlers this week whom both went 8-0 for the weekend and that’s no other than Matthew Kesterson and Trey Franklin.
Congratulations to both of these young men!
