LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – According to a criminal complaint, on Dec. 13, an officer conducted a traffic stop in the vicinity of Home 2 Suites on a Chevy Malibu for no registration and defective equipment. As the officer was speaking with the driver, he could reportedly smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The officer asked the driver who in the vehicle had marijuana, and a male, later identified as Robert Wade, allegedly said he did. The officer told Wade to get out of the vehicle on the passenger side.

According to the criminal complaint, the officer could see that Wade was digging in the floorboards and his pockets. The officer went around to the passenger side and reportedly saw that Wade was still digging in the floorboards. The officer told him to leave whatever was in the vehicle. Wade then reportedly got out and allegedly had a bronze metal object and a silver object in his left hand. The officer then drew his pistol and told Wade to put whatever was in his hand back in the vehicle. Wade complied.

Wade then stepped around several officers. He had his left hand in his pocket. One officer told him to take his hand out of his pocket, but he reportedly wouldn’t. One officer took Wade’s hand out of his pocket and placed his hands on the back of the vehicle. Two officers attempted to place Wade in handcuffs so the investigation could be finished.

An officer felt an object in his left sleeve, which reportedly turned out to be a knife. After they got him handcuffed, they searched him and found 5 grams of marijuana, 1.75 grams of methamphetamine, 105 alprazolam 5 MG tablets, and 1 suboxone 8 MG, according to the complaint.

A search of the vehicle and Wade’s backpack allegedly turned up a marijuana grinder that also contained loose marijuana. A 4-inch suspected homemade explosive wrapped in black duct tape and containing what appeared to be black powder with a green wick coming from the top for lighting was also found on Wade’s person, the criminal complaint states. Wade was placed under arrest, transported to Lewisburg detachment for processing, and then to Southern Regional Jail.

At the time of publishing, Wade is not listed as an inmate at Southern Regional Jail.
