GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier River Trail will undergo a significant bridge redecking project over the next two years. The project is scheduled to begin in mid-January 2026, at the southern end, near Caldwell. As the work progresses northward, specific sections of the Trail will be closed, each for several weeks at a time. Detours will not be available during these closure periods, and affected segments will be clearly marked.
Officials urge all trail users to stay informed about specific closure dates and affected sections by visiting the Greenbrier River Trail Foundation website regularly at https://www.greenbrierrivertrail.com, and encourage others to do the same, so everyone can plan their visit and support the project effectively.
Up-to-date information will be posted as the project advances.
Trail officials ask for your patience and understanding as they complete this important infrastructure improvement. The redecking project will enhance the safety and longevity of the trail for all users.
Officials said, “Our sincere thanks go to the West Virginia Division of Highways for their assistance with this Federal Transportation Alternatives contract. We also gratefully acknowledge the generous financial support from those who have helped us meet the 20% match funding requirement: the James F.B. Peyton Foundation, the Seneca Trail Charitable Foundation, the Hollowell Dawkins Foundation, the State Parks Foundation, and hundreds of Trail users.
“Thank you for your cooperation and continued support of the Greenbrier River Trail.”
