Charleston, W.Va. (WVDN) – Today, Governor Patrick Morrisey announced the appointment of Gerald M. Titus III of Charleston to the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, filling the vacancy created by the passing of Justice Tim Armstead earlier this year.
“After speaking with the finalists following a rigorous and thoughtful deliberation process, I am confident that Justice Titus will serve our state honorably and uphold the rule of law,” said Governor Morrisey.
Titus brings a wealth of legal experience as well as a well-earned reputation for professionalism and integrity.
A graduate of Washington and Lee University for both his undergraduate studies and Juris Doctor, Titus has built a distinguished career across multiple facets of the legal profession.
At Spilman, Thomas & Battle since 2009, Titus has focused on civil litigation, criminal justice, corporate litigation, and business litigation. In addition to his private practice, he also served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of West Virginia, where he worked in the Violent Crimes Division.
Titus has been recognized as a West Virginia Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, and was honored multiple times by The Best Lawyers in America for his work in commercial litigation.
“I look forward to applying my full legal abilities and training to reach the right result under the law,” said Justice Titus. “I am committed to the rule of law and applying the law as it is written. I believe it’s critical for the Court to remain impartial and ensure fairness for all parties.”
Titus was joined at the announcement by his wife, Meredith, and his three children.
“The experience and integrity of Gerald Titus will be an invaluable addition to the Supreme Court of Appeals,” added Governor Morrisey. “I am confident he will serve the people of West Virginia with distinction.”
