RUPERT W.Va. (WVDN) — Students in grades Pre-K through fifth at Rupert Elementary School recently had access to comprehensive dental care right on campus through the Smile Programs, the mobile dentists initiative.

The in-school dental program, designed to address the dental crisis and keep children healthy, was organized and arranged by Rupert Elementary Principal Jenny Harden. Students were eligible to receive care provided their parents submitted permission.

The Smile Programs model uses the latest portable technology to set up a mini dental clinic directly within the school, making it easy and convenient for parents while ensuring students stay in class and continue learning. The service is provided at no cost to the school or the parents.

The program utilizes locally licensed dentists, hygienists and assistants to deliver high-quality care specifically targeting many children who lack affordable access to dental services.

Students participating in the program received a range of services, including: complete oral exam, cleaning, fluoride treatment, dental sealants, x-rays, fillings, pulpotomies (treatment of the nerve inside of a baby tooth) and simple extractions.
