FRANKFORD W.Va. (WVDN) – The Ladies of the Henning Church of God held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 9, in the church sanctuary. Carole Spencer presided and Marty Burns led in prayer. The ladies provided the following report.
“Dyan Hefner presented the devotion about candy corn with scripture reference Isaiah 55:11. Every autumn there is a fresh crop of candy corn. It was invented in the 1880s. It is used to teach about God’s harvest. The parable of Luke 8 tells of different types of soil and what happened when seed fell on it, The mysteries of the of the kingdom of God are given only to disciples who have faith in their hearts. The seed is the word of God and Jesus is generous in scattering his seed. The white tip symbolizes purity for God the father who is perfect and righteous. The orange middle symbolizes the Holy Spirit’s flames at Pentecost. The large harvest field needs to be reached. Yellow symbolizes the light of Jesus and his intent to spread seed. Luke 10:2 tells that the harvest is plentiful and the workers are few. In this day and time, it is hard to get and keep workers. Our church elderly cannot work like they want to and used to. We need younger people to come in . The shape of the candy is likened to a seed and the sweetness is seen as a reminder of God’s blessings. The candy points upward and reminds us to pray each time and bless the worker’s harvest. Dyan also read a poem, “Celebrate the Lord is God” and read a song, “Hark the Voice of Jesus Calling.”
“Barbara Seldomridge brought us our missionary education report. We learned previously about Cory and Abby Stocksdale in Botswana. They have three more missionaries in their family and much younger, Olivia, Simeon, and Declan. They have logged many miles to get to Botswana. They have shared in their schools and church about God. The Stocksdale’s have helped to implement a child sponsorship program through Child of Promise and help develop evangelism and community outreach programs to meet the social, spiritual and financial needs of their community. The children spoke on a program on You Tube, “A World of Good,” dated April 2024. Olivia, who is 11, shared that the church is different from the American churches. In the church at Botswana, they dance and sing a lot more in church. Sunday school stays outside and colors pictures and sees friends unless it rains. Simeon, who is nine, shared that the houses are spread apart, the roads are bumpy and you have to make your own path. Declan, who is six shared about the animals in Safari. These are mini-me missionaries. We need to tell what Jesus has done for us no matter what our age.”
Jamie Harvey gave the treasurer’s report and Pauline Perkins read last month’s minutes.
The group held a yard and bake sale on Saturday, September 13. The group will be serving the Maxwelton Ruritans on September 25. The church will have a Fall Social on Sunday, September 28 after church. Everyone is invited to attend. The food will be furnished along with games and activities for everyone.
