CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN)  – Governor Patrick Morrisey announced the appointments of two West Virginians to leadership positions, demonstrating his continued commitment to tackling the state’s drug crisis and strengthening educational opportunities in West Virginia.

Gregory Duckworth Reappointed to West Virginia First Foundation Board

Governor Morrisey has reappointed Gregory Duckworth to a second term on the West Virginia First Foundation Board. Commissioner Duckworth brings decades of distinguished public service and firsthand experience with the opioid crisis to the Foundation’s critical mission of combating addiction statewide.

A 26-year veteran of the West Virginia State Police, Commissioner Duckworth served in some of the communities hardest hit by substance abuse, including McDowell, Wyoming, Boone, Raleigh, Nicholas, and Fayette counties. Rising through the ranks as trooper, detachment commander, and district commander, he gained unique insight into the challenges and human toll of the epidemic.

Following his retirement from law enforcement in 2016, Duckworth continued his service as Director of Security at Glade Springs and was later elected to the Raleigh County Commission in 2020, where he currently serves as president. He is also active on the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority and the Raleigh County Regional Airport Authority Board of Directors.

A proud West Virginian for more than 35 years, Duckworth lives in southern West Virginia with his wife of 31 years, Rhonda.

Dr. Chanda Adkins Appointed to the Professional Charter School Board

Governor Morrisey has also appointed Dr. Chanda Adkins to the Professional Charter School Board, bringing with her an exceptional background in healthcare, education, and public service.

A pharmacist, educator, and former legislator, Dr. Adkins graduated from West Virginia University’s School of Pharmacy in 2005, where she served as president of the WV Pharmacist Association’s Student Chapter. She completed a pharmacy residency at Charleston Area Medical Center in 2009 and has served in various pharmacy roles including retail, hospital, government, and clinical settings.

Dr. Adkins was appointed to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 2018, where she served on multiple committees. A small-business owner and basketball coach at Greater Beckley Christian School, she brings a balanced perspective as both a parent and educator from public and private school environments.
