Catherine Barnett Gibbons Jost
Catherine Barnett Gibbons Jost died on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at her home in White Sulphur Springs, WV.
She was born September 20, 1948, in Athens, GA, the daughter of William Barnett Gibbons and Mary Palmer Gibbons of Madison, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Mary Elizabeth (Petal) Montis.
Catherine grew up in Madison, GA, and graduated from Wesleyan College in 1970. After graduation, she moved to St. Simons Island, GA, where she worked in marketing at Sea Palms Coastal Realty. She met her future husband, Victor, on St. Simons, and they married in 1975.
After a year spent in St. Louis, MO, the couple moved to White Sulphur Springs, where Catherine became a founding member of Main Street White Sulphur Springs and served on the board of White Sulphur Springs Public Library. For many years, she was a member of the Old White Garden Club.
In recent years, Catherine and Victor have divided their time between White Sulphur Springs and St. Simons Island. On St. Simons, Catherine was a founding member of The Literary Guild of St. Simons Island.
Catherine is survived by her husband, Victor Jost of White Sulphur Springs; a niece, Beth Montis of Jacksonville, FL; and by her godson, Powell Weaver of Athens, GA.
