CHARLESTON W.Va. (WVDN) — Today marks International Overdose Awareness Day. Founded in 2001, this day brings a global community together to take action on overdose. WVSL Solutions, a West Virginia 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization active throughout the state with offices in Charleston and Morgantown, is taking active steps to prevent overdose in the state with the distribution of ONEbox kits throughout the greater Charleston area.
The ONEbox is an emergency opioid overdose reversal kit designed to promote safety by assuring that individuals have life-saving, on-demand training when and where they need it. The ONEbox is managed by the West Virginia Drug Intervention Institute, Inc., based in Charleston, West Virginia. By combining immediate naloxone access, easy-to understand video instructions, and hands-on training, ONEbox® ensures that everyone is equipped to respond effectively in an overdose situation.
Kits were distributed by WVSL Solutions to over 30 community partners including those at Legal Aid WV, American Job Center, WestSide Together, and at the State Capitol.
Like CPR training or emergency AEDs, ONEboxes empower ordinary bystanders to become lifesavers in the event of a drug overdose emergency. Naloxone (a.k.a. Narcan, the most common naloxone brand name) is a medication that can quickly counteract opioids in someone’s body if they are experiencing an overdose.
If your organization is interested in obtaining a ONEbox or would like to be trained on naloxone use, you can contact WVSL Solutions at 304-413-4300 or info@wvsls.com. You can also find them online at wvsls.com.
