PETERSTOWN W.Va. (WVDN) – The central focus of Thursday’s monthly meeting of the Peterstown Rowe-Jones American Legion Post 145 was aiding fellow Legionnaires and veterans. Post Commander Bridget Larew encouraged members to contact those unable to attend recent meetings, emphasizing the importance of staying in touch and providing support when needed.
Commander Larew said, “It would be beneficial to call or text members to let them know we are thinking of them and can assist should they require any help.” Members were tasked with conducting “buddy checks” for fellow Legionnaires and other veterans who might need assistance.
Discussion also covered plans for the upcoming West Virginia American Legion 6th District meeting, which will take place at the Peterstown Firehouse on September 13 – registration is at 10 a.m., meeting gets underway at 11.
District meetings serve as regional forums connecting local posts with department-level leadership. They include updates on ongoing initiatives, reviews of resolutions and goals, district-level elections and appointments, and training sessions. Such gatherings also strengthen
the camaraderie among members. Earlier district meetings have been held in Fayetteville and Princeton.
On national security, Commander Larew referenced reports about U.S. military officials considering NATO strategies in light of significant events expected in 2027, potentially affecting Europe and the Pacific.
Commander Larew also shared information from the Department of Veterans Affairs: veterans passing away while under VA-provided home hospice care may now qualify for a full VA burial allowance.
The Peterstown Rowe-Jones American Legion Post 145 meets regularly on the second Thursday of each month at 216 Market Street, Peterstown, with meetings starting at 6:30 p.m., and a social hour beginning at 5:30 p.m.
