Hundreds of people will run the 5-mile course or walk 2.5 miles to help raise funds and awareness for colorectal cancer, and supply colorectal cancer screening kits for those who otherwise could not afford them in our community.
The CAMC Foundation sponsors this annual event which started in 2004 in honor of Jody Jividen, Daily Mail staffer, who died from colorectal cancer in 2002, as well as Chris Stadelman, chief of staff for Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, who died from colorectal cancer in 2018.
Colorectal cancer survivor Josh Sword of the WV AFL-CIO, with his wife Kelly, are co-chairing the 2021 event along with honorary chairwoman Elisabeth Payne, whose teenage life was put on hold when doctors discovered a cancerous polyp.
At just 16-years-old, Payne had successful surgery to remove the cancer before it could spread. Wanting to give back and share her experience, she and her family formed a fundraising team for the 2020 CAMC Foundation Run for Your Life and raised more than $1,500.
Sign up at give.camcfoundation.org/run and join Josh, Kelly, and Elisabeth and their families by walking or running.
Pre-registered participants can pick up their packets June 18 from 3-7 p.m. in the parking lot of the CAMC Cancer Center (3414 McCorkle Ave., SE Charleston, WV 25304).
Registration is available on race day, June 19 at Haddad Riverfront Park from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.
