LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – A Lewisburg man was arrested Friday, July 25, following a reported domestic incident at the Relax Inn on Jefferson Street North, according to police.
Officers with the Lewisburg Police Department responded to the motel around 9:30 p.m. on July 25 after receiving a call from Greenbrier County 911 Dispatch regarding a disturbance in one of the rooms. Upon arrival, officers identified the alleged offender as Eric George, who was reportedly involved in an altercation with his girlfriend.
According to statements provided to law enforcement, George told officers he had just finished work and had consumed alcohol. He also allegedly admitted to using methamphetamines the previous day. Officers reportedly recovered a glass pipe from George’s backpack after he told them it was inside.
The situation escalated when George returned to the room and found his girlfriend still there, despite believing she was supposed to be gone. George told police that an argument began and turned physical when she allegedly scratched at his eyes. He said he pushed her in self-defense, forcing her onto the bed.
However, the victim’s account differed. In a written statement to police, she said George entered the room yelling and began packing her belongings. She claimed George grabbed her by the neck and covered her mouth with his hand, restricting her ability to breathe. She also alleged that George tried to take her phone to prevent her from calling for help and threatened further violence if she contacted law enforcement.
She told officers she was shoved to the floor before George opened the door upon realizing police had arrived. Officers noted visible marks on her neck consistent with her statement and reviewed messages she sent asking for help.
Based on the evidence at the scene and the statements provided by both parties, officers placed George under arrest. He was transported to the Lewisburg Police Department for processing and later taken to Southern Regional Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment for Domestic Battery in Greenbrier County Magistrate Court.
