MORGANTOWN, W.V.a (WVDN)- On day two of the Major League Baseball Draft last week, five WVU Mountaineers were taken after their third consecutive stellar season at the college level.
Catcher Logan Sauve was the first to be selected and went in the seventh round to the Athletics. Kyle West (New York Yankees), Robby Porco (Los Angeles Dodgers), and Griffin Kirn (Athletics) all went near each other in the 13th and 14th rounds. Skylar King was the final Mountaineer taken as the outfielder went to the Red Sox.
Two other players, Sam White and Jack Kartsonas, were not selected in the draft but have signed free agent deals. White– a huge loss for WVU as he could have returned next season–signed with the Toronto Blue Jays and Kartsonas inked with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Logan Sauve:
One of the best catchers to come through the program, Sauve finished his Mountaineer career with a .284 batting average and 20 home runs.
Kyle West:
A transfer from the University of Charleston, West, in two seasons, was an important player for WVU. He hit .298 with 25 home runs.
Robby Porco:
Drafted more on potential, Porco spent three years with WVU. This past season, he pitched 21 innings, struck out 24 batters, and had an ERA of 4.64.
Griffin Kirn:
This season’s Friday starter for WVU and their most consistent pitcher over the second half of the season, Kirn struck out 103 batters in 99 innings and pitched well in the NCAA Tournament.
Skylar King:
2025 was the year King broke out. He hit .291 with three homers and 32 RBIs. He also was one of the best defensive centerfielders in all of college baseball.
