LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – Clifford Taylor Lee, 50, a fugitive wanted in Montgomery County, Virginia, was taken into custody early July 9 after a chaotic encounter with law enforcement in Greenbrier County.
At approximately 12:01 a.m., deputies from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, joined by Lewisburg Police, arrived at a residence on Rowan Road to serve outstanding warrants for Lee. Officers were initially invited inside, but attempted to place Lee under arrest once outside the home. Lee resisted, striking one officer in the face and slamming a door into another deputy’s head, sparking a violent confrontation.
When officers attempted to subdue him, Lee continued resisting. Law enforcement deployed a taser, temporarily incapacitating him, but he fled the scene partially dressed. A second taser deployment in the front yard finally forced him to the ground. Additional deputies arrived, and Lee was secured after fleeing on foot and then collapsing from exhaustion.
Lee was booked into Southern Regional Jail on the original fugitive warrant, as well as new West Virginia charges including obstructing an officer, battery on an officer and fleeing on foot. As of press time, he was being held without bond pending extradition to Virginia and arraignment in Greenbrier County.
