ALDERSON W.Va. (WVDN) – July’s Writers Station is set for Saturday, July 19th from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at the Train Depot, #1 Railroad Street in Alderson, WV. The Writers Station is an open mic for writers, so bring your original work, or a special piece written by another, that you would like to share. Poetry, prose, memoirs, fiction, and essays – all are welcome. We also invite storytellers to bring their favorite short tales. Doors will open at 5:30 pm.
How can we possibly be halfway through the year already? And yet here we are celebrating a host of July observances. July and independence from tyranny seem to go hand in hand, as both Canada, on Canada Day, July 1st, and France, on Bastille Day, July 14th, celebrate their independence, as we celebrate ours on July 4th with fireworks and picnics with family and friends. Have a good 4th of July story?
July 15th is Give Something Away Day, and if that isn’t a writing prompt, I don’t know what is! On July 20, 1969, the first astronauts landed on the moon and gave us a whole new perspective on our celestial companion. And finally, we love our canine buddies, so if you’ve ever written an ode to your dog, perhaps you would share it with us, as July 31st is National Mutt Day!
This event is free, open to all who would like to read, as well as those who would like to listen, and takes place on the 3rd Saturday of each month, except December.
The Writers Station is sponsored by Alderson Main Street and is produced and hosted by Reni Fulton and Cheryl Mansley. For more information, text Reni at 304-994-1703, or contact Cheryl at 304-702-0554 or cherylmansley@gmail.com.
