CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) — The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) announced that it will hold a series of open house meetings in July to gather public input on the State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP), which is currently under review.

The SWAP guides the WVDNR’s efforts to manage and conserve West Virginia’s diverse wildlife and natural habitats. Members of the public are encouraged to attend a meeting and share their thoughts on how the WVDNR can better protect the state’s natural resources.

“These open house meetings are a chance for West Virginians to take an active role in conservation,” said WVDNR Director Brett McMillion. “Public input is vital to our work, and hearing directly from our residents helps us shape programs that reflect the values and needs of West Virginia.”

Open houses will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the following locations:

  • July 16 – Morgantown, West Virginia University, Percival Hall Main Lobby
  • July 17 – Martinsburg, James Rumsey Vocational and Technical School
  • July 30 – Alum Creek, Claudia L. Workman Wildlife Education Center

Members of the public are encouraged to complete a brief online survey and share their ideas for programs, opportunities and resources they believe the WVDNR should offer. Those who are able to attend a meeting will also have the opportunity to learn more about the SWAP, how it influences wildlife management decisions and how they can get involved. Light refreshments will be provided at each meeting.
