BROOKLYN, NY- West Virginia guard Javon Small finally heard his name called on Thursday night, June 26 in the second round of the NBA Draft when the Memphis Grizzlies selected the 6’3″ guard with the 48th pick of the draft.
Small, who was in attendance with family and a styling green suit, played at WVU for just one season in 2024-25, but had one of the better years in Mountaineer history.
He led the team every night despite being the focal point of the opponents’ defensive game plans and despite having a coach who emotionally checked out mid-November in preparation for his next coaching move (Indiana).
Small represented Mountaineer nation with class, integrity, and positivity and on top of that, averaged 18.6 points per game, 5.6 assists, and 4.1 rebounds and was an all-Big 12 first team selection.
Small began his career at East Carolina where he played for two seasons, transferred to Oklahoma State for a year, and then capped his stellar career in Morgantown.
A fan favorite, the Memphis Grizzlies gained a lot of fans last week as Mountaineers everywhere will be pulling hard for Small to succeed in the league.
