LEWISBURG- On an extremely hot evening just minutes after a short county-wide power outage began to be restored, the Central Greenbrier 10U all-star team will ride into the state tournament on a high note after defeating Shady Spring 12-2 in the District 4 championship game.
Central Greenbrier never trailed in the game and finished the district part of the tourney scoring in double digits each contest.
Beckett Myles picked up the win for CG and he started his night off with a bang as he struck out the Shady side in order in the top of the first.
Maddix D put Central Greenbrier on the board in the bottom half when he hit an RBI single to right field that scored Colt C. That score put CG up 1-0 after one.
After a scoreless second frame for both teams, the hometown boys got right back at it in the third inning and put up three important runs and did it all with two outs. Colt C singled then Mace D followed that up with a base hit of his own that knocked in Colt C for an RBI. Two other runs scored on an error on the same play as Central took a 4-0 lead at that point.
After Shady clawed back with two unearned runs in the fourth, it was Central Greenbrier that did the final damage immediately following.
CG scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to ice the game and end it in those four innings. The scoring was highlighted by a lot of walks, two nice singles from Brayden E and Keenan A, and a 2-run triple from Wyatt B. At the end of the day, it was Central Greenbrier who sprinted to the center field fence in celebration.
Beckett M finished his night on the mound by throwing a complete game. He allowed just two hits, no earned runs and struck out seven. He also did not walk a batter.
CG had seven total hits on the evening. Mace D drove in three runs and Maddix D and Wyatt B each drove in two apiece. Colt C scored three times.
Central Greenbrier will now head to Huntington for the state tournament. We will provide dates and opponents once they become available.
