Larry Moore was born in Daybrook, West Virginia on November 23, 1940, to Delmar and Betty Moore. He was the husband of Eleanor “Bonnie” Moore and the proud father of the late Allen Moore. He was one of the best horsemen there ever was. He touched so many lives in a positive way.
Animals, especially horses and dogs were a large part of his life. He dedicated his life to others, especially his wife and son, they were the most important things to him period. He truly loved people. He had a way with horses that was unmatched. He worked with many horses and people to bring out the best in them. He went to the top in whatever he was in with Bonnie and Allen every step of the way.
Everyone around him always had a good time. He was a great listener and usually had good advice. He had a great sense of humor and was able to laugh at himself. He loved to feed people. You would never enjoy a cup of coffee like you could with him. He was like a second father to me and many more people he met. He never failed a friend. He had many friends and liked having them around.
He competed in many areas from barrel racing to the shovel race to walking horses to coon dogs. He said that he would walk 20 miles to ride a horse that bucked.
He was a young man when he was injured by a dozer. It was touch and go, but he lived. He had a bad leg ever after, but he didn’t let it slow him down.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The horse show world of yesteryear knew them quite well and these same took turns holding Allen when one or the other had to go into the ring to ride contest. They got their pictures in the paper many times. They got barred from many shows because everyone knew that if they showed up who would be taking home the trophy. They worked very hard to get good at what they did. They helped many others to get good and it hurt them very much when the same people acted like they didn’t know them, but Larry didn’t let that bother him he continued.
He was the first one who built a handicapped saddle so that his son could ride like everyone else. He built cars. He and Bonnie saw to it Allen was able to do anything his heart desired if it was at all within their powers.
At Larry’s passing he and his wife Bonnie were in the Stonerise Nursing Home in Kingwood, West Virginia, Bonnie is still a resident.
