LEWISBURG- After two big, important wins in Hinton to start the week, the Central Greenbrier 10U all-stars stayed in the friendly confines of Greenbrier County at Hollowell Park in Lewisburg on Wednesday night, June 18 to host the Sophia all-stars.
As it turns out for CG, it didn’t seem to matter if they played at home, on the road, or on another planet as they played well in all phases of the game and came away with a convincing 17-2 victory in front of a big crowd that circled the whole park from the foul lines to the outfield.
After three games, Central Greenbrier is scoring 18.3 runs per contest.
CG got it going early in this one when Beckett M led off the game with a double then two batters later, after a groundout by Colt C, Beckett M scored and then Brayden E singled to keep the momentum going. A 2-RBI single from Wyatt B made it 3-0, Central Greenbrier, then to cap the scoring, Aiden K drew a bases loaded walk that made it 4-0.
Beckett M made a great throw to second to end the bottom of inning number one when he caught Brycen E of Sophia trying to steal second base. That sent the large crowd on hand into a big applause.
Carson P singled home Brayden E in the second to make it 5-0 then CG added one more when Keenan A scored on a passed ball and after two innings of work, Central Greenbrier led 6-0.
Fast forward to the fourth inning when CG got most of the damage done for the night. Each game of the tournament so far, they have had some big innings each game that propels them to the win column and 10 runs in the fourth in this game was no different. And what’s crazy is they did all their work with just one hit in the frame.
They drew a total of nine walks in the fourth before Colt C’s RBI single to finish off the Central Greenbrier scoring.
Tucker C was great on the mound for CG. He pitched three innings, allowed just two hits, one run, and struck out seven.
Brayden E and Carson P led Central with two hits each. Carson P also scored two runs and drove in two more. Brayden E and Keenan A scored four runs each.
CG will be off on Thursday and resume play this Friday night.
