WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) – Unionized staff at The Greenbrier have officially approved a new two-year labor agreement with
the hotel’s ownership, following a vote held on Tuesday, May 10.
Jay Justice, Chairman of The Greenbrier and son of U.S. Senator Jim Justice, shared his satisfaction with the outcome. Justice also acknowledged the cooperative efforts of union leaders, including Lynne Fox, President of Workers United International, and Peter Bostic, who oversees bargaining and representation for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Joint Board.
Under the new agreement, employees will receive a 2.6% wage increase this year, aligned with inflation rates, and a 2.4% raise next year. Their health insurance coverage will remain unchanged through The Amalgamated National Health Fund.
Since May 1, staff had been working under an extension of the previous contract while negotiations continued.
During the previous agreement, the hotel had temporarily fallen behind on health care payments for employees, but that issue has since been resolved and payments are now current, according to staff.
As the largest employer in Greenbrier County, The Greenbrier plays a key role in the local economy. In 2022, visitors spent nearly $400 million in the region, much of it tied to the hotel, which hosts tourists, corporate gatherings and high-profile sporting events.
