CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVDN) — West Virginia Health Right (WVHR), with the support of Governor Patrick Morrisey and First Lady Denise Morrisey, officially unveiled its new Mobile Teaching Kitchen during a ribbon-cutting and live cooking demonstration on the lawn of the Governor’s Mansion.
Representing an extension of WV Health Right’s mission to promote health education across the Mountain State, the new mobile unit will travel to underserved communities, offering hands-on nutrition education, healthy cooking demonstrations, and preventive health outreach designed to empower West Virginians to take control of their health. It will meet people where they are—at fairs, festivals, church and community events—in order to provide practical tools and support for healthier living.
“This mobile unit is a classroom, a clinic, and a lifeline, giving every West Virginian the tools to make informed, healthier choices, no matter where they live,” said Dr. Angie Settle, CEO of WV Health Right. “By making health education accessible and engaging, we’re bringing a ‘food as medicine’ approach directly into neighborhoods, community events, and non-traditional healthcare settings in West Virginia.”
Governor Patrick Morrisey, who has championed the “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) movement in West Virginia alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., praised the Mobile Teaching Kitchen as a meaningful example of the type of local, community-based initiative that aligns with his administration’s Four Pillars of a Healthy West Virginia strategy to improve public health across the state.
“West Virginia Health Right’s new Mobile Teaching Kitchen represents the kind of innovative, community-centered approach that can help tackle chronic illness and promote lasting wellness across the state,” said Governor Patrick Morrisey. “By increasing access to practical nutrition education and preventive care, this initiative is taking meaningful steps to support our mission to make West Virginia healthy again.”
“The Mobile Teaching Kitchen is a great example of how innovation, love of community and creativity can come together to improve lives,” said First Lady Denise Morrisey. “By showing families how to prepare healthy meals and understand nutrition and the vital role that food choices play in overall health, WV Health Right is giving people across our state the tools they need to build stronger, healthier futures.”
