LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier County Airport Authority is excited to announce that Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) service will officially resume at Greenbrier Valley Airport (LWB) this Sunday, June 1. The seasonal service modification adds Chicago as a destination while maintaining service to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) through October 31.
To celebrate the return of this highly anticipated route, Greenbrier Valley Airport will host a ceremonial launch event on Monday, June 2, featuring a traditional water cannon salute and press ceremony. The inaugural flight is expected to arrive at 4:55 p.m. and will be greeted with the ceremonial water cannon salute upon arrival.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to see Chicago service return to our airport,” said Martha Livesay, Director of Greenbrier Valley Airport. “The response from our community has been overwhelming since we announced this route’s return. This service is already proving popular with both business and leisure travelers who have been eagerly waiting for direct access to the Midwest again.”
The Chicago O’Hare service provides travelers with immediate access to one of the world’s busiest hub airports, offering extensive domestic and international connections that perfectly complement our existing Charlotte service. The service addition maintains cost efficiency with no increase to the current EAS subsidy level while serving our region during peak tourism season.
Travelers can now book Chicago flights through Contour Airlines’ website, American Airlines (aa.com), and other major travel booking platforms. The seasonal service is made possible through a Minimum Ticket Revenue Guarantee Agreement between Contour Airlines and The Greenbrier resort, with all necessary approvals secured from both the Greenbrier County Airport Authority and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
