RONCEVERTE W.Va. (WVDN) – A Ronceverte man was arrested Friday after allegedly threatening his wife during a domestic dispute and attempting to evade law enforcement, according to a criminal complaint filed in Greenbrier County Magistrate Court.
The incident began around 12:30 p.m. on May 16, when deputies with the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a residence in Ronceverte following a 911 call from a concerned daughter reporting a violent domestic situation involving her mother and suspect Alphrin Arnett Norman.
According to the complaint, the caller told dispatchers that Norman was yelling threats, could be heard screaming in the background and had stated he would “fight” and dared someone to “bring the cops down here.”
While deputies were in route, the suspect and victim reportedly left the scene in an SUV. The caller stated they passed two police cruisers, later confirmed by deputies, which lent credibility to her report.
The vehicle was later located in the parking lot of an Arby’s fast-food restaurant on Piercy Drive in Lewisburg by city police officers. Authorities said the SUV appeared to be attempting to avoid marked cruisers before being stopped as it tried to pull onto the main road.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies found Norman on the ground, detained and yelling. The victim told officers she had picked Norman up from Walmart earlier that day, and he began verbally abusing and threatening her during the drive to Ronceverte. She said she called her daughter during the altercation, which led to the 911 call.
The victim reported that earlier in the day, Norman threatened to “break her jaw” if police attempted to arrest him. She also showed officers a bruise on her chest, she said was from Norman striking her with his fist the day before, as well as a cracked windshield she claimed he damaged during the same incident.
Norman was arrested and processed at the Lewisburg detachment before being transported to Greenbrier County Magistrate Court for arraignment.
Court records show Norman has a recent history of domestic violence involving the same victim. On May 7, he pleaded no contest to one count of domestic battery stemming from an April 17 incident. As part of that plea agreement, he was ordered to keep the peace with the victim. Authorities say he violated this in both the May 15 and May 16 incidents.
Norman faces multiple charges and remains in custody at Southern Regional Jail at the time of publishing. His bail has been set at $2,500.
