Volunteers are needed in the town of Rainelle to pick up litter as part of the REAP Make It Shine event.
According to acting Mayor Bill Bell, the event will take place the last two weeks in May. The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s REAP program will provide bags and gloves to volunteers free of charge.
“We need people to help,” Bell stated.
At the last Make It Shine event in 2019, only about eight people volunteered, he added.
Now, individuals, businesses and more are welcome to form a group and organize the litter pick-up.
Once the litter has been collected in bags, REAP provides the town with free hauling and landfill fees.
The tire collection will not take place during this event, but a collection should take place later this year, Bell noted.
For those interested in volunteering for the Make It Shine event, contact any city council member, Bell said. The number to Rainelle Town Hall is 304-438-7191.
