Trouble At Talcott
The intermeddling of the Ku Klux Klan at Talcott, Summers County, disrupted commencement week in the schools there. Some effort was made to withdraw the invitation to Arthur S. White of Marshall College, to speak at the commencement exercises, but this was overruled. It appears the discord started when the principal of the school found Klan regalia in the school building and threw it out on the ground. It is said he was imposed upon with a fine for damage to the regalia, but the fine was paid by the people supporting the principal.
Nicholas Gas Wells
Of twelve gas wells drilled in recently on Muddlety in Nicholas County, eight are producing.
Novel Deed Is Unearthed
A novel deed has been discovered to the site of the Women’s Federal Prison to be erected at Alderson. According to this ancient document George the Second King of England conveyed the land to Henry Boughman, its first individual owner. The grant was made in the year 1759 when Virginia was still a colony of England.

Golden Horseshoe
The Golden Horseshoe winners for Greenbrier County are: Jeanette Hedrick, Greenbrier High School; Amoret Bell, Lewisburg High School; Virginia Fleshman, Rainelle High School; and Barbara Jean Crump, Bethune Graded School, White Sulphur Springs.
Capt. Yeager Unhurt When Plane Crashes
Capt. Charles E. Yeager, the Air Force’s faster-than-sound pilot ace, had a close call Friday at Muroc, Calif. Taking off in an experimental Jet XF-92A from Edwards Air Force Base, Yeager experienced an engine failure. The plane crashed from a height of 20 feet and was badly damaged, but Yeager was unhurt. It was the third crackup that Yeager, 27, has been lucky enough to walk away from.
Tuckwiller Heads Agricultural Club
John F. Tuckwiller of Lewisburg has been elected vice president of the West Virginia Universwity Agriculture Club. Bobby VanStavern of Pickaway was elected secretary and Albert E. Freeman of Lewisburg was named reporter at the annual meeting.

Ford, Aultz Given Highest Awards
Jane Ann Ford and Andy Aultz were named as the Best Actress and Actor for the 1974-75 Drama Season at Greenbrier East High School during the fifth Greenbrier East Academy Awards program. In a special award presented by the Academy, the choreography in “Funny “Girl” was noted as outstanding and a special award was presented to Cathy Collins for her work in that department.

Former Medical Examiner Testifies In Rainbow Murder Trial
The medical examiner who nearly 20 years ago performed autopsies on two women shot to death in Pocahontas County testified that the women were shot with a high-powered weapon at close range.
Authorities Seize Slot Machines From Local Businesses
A total of seven gambling machines were confiscated from two local businesses when the West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Commission and the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department conducted a sting. The seven machines were taken from Cheers in Lewisburg and Little General in Charmco.
Teachers Participate In Workshop
Greenbrier County teachers recently explored Native American culture through songs, dances and stories during a Teach SmART professional development workshop presented by Carnegie Hall and the Greenbrier County Board of Education in cooperation with The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Workshop Kevin Locke is a Lakota dancer, storyteller, and indigenous flute player.
