Lewisburg, W.Va. (WVDN) — In a show of support for lifelong learning and community service, the Greenbrier County Commission signed a proclamation Tuesday, May 13, recognizing May 18–25 as Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) Week across the state.
The signing took place at the Greenbrier County Courthouse with members of various CEOS clubs in attendance, proudly displaying banners and wearing signature blue and gold. The proclamation honors the contributions of CEOS members who dedicate their time and knowledge to educational programs, leadership development, and community improvement initiatives.
“For over a century, CEOS members have made a lasting impact in West Virginia communities,” said Commissioner Tammy Tincher. “This proclamation is a small way to say thank you for the tireless work you do—from supporting youth literacy, donating to community needs, and saving our pollinators, to hosting monthly wellness activities and staying active.”
The CEOS organization, affiliated with West Virginia University Extension, includes thousands of volunteers who lead programs related to family life, home gardening, public health education, and civic engagement. The mission of CEOS is to broaden service in the community, continue lifelong education to strengthen individuals and provide an outreach for leadership.
GC CEOS President Linda Spencer stated, “This week reminds us that education doesn’t end in the classroom—it happens every day, around kitchen tables, in community centers, and through shared experiences.”
