ALDERSON W.Va. (WVDN) – The May Writers Station Open Mic is scheduled for May 17, 6-7:30 p.m. at the Train Depot, #1 Railroad Street in Alderson. In the merry month of May, the community celebrates May Day (May 1), Cinco de Mayo (May 5), Mother’s Day (May 11), and Memorial Day (May 26). Additionally, May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month. Other notable dates include International Nurses Day (May 12) and World Laughter Day (first Sunday of May) and who doesn’t need a little laughter in their lives these days! And on the date The Writers Station Open Mic meets, May 17, the very first Kentucky Derby took place in Louisville, Kentucky. Do you have a horse story to tell?
You may have an original poem or a story with one of these themes, but all themes and forms are welcome, including poetry, short story and autobiography. Readers have five minutes to read their work, depending on the number of readers. And please feel free to come even if you don’t have something to read. Every person reading needs a welcoming and supportive audience.
The Writers Station Open Mic is sponsored by Alderson Main Street and is hosted by Cheryl Mansley and Reni Fulton.
