ALDERSON W.Va. (WVDN) – Fifteen musicians showed up at the Alderson Train Depot on Saturday, May 3, for the opening of the fourth season of Open Mic at the Depot. Enthusiastic audience members provided a warm welcome with tapping feet and clapping hands.
Sponsored by Alderson Main Street, Open Mic at the Depot is part of this season’s “Trains and Tunes” event held the first Saturday of the month, May through September. The historic C&O Depot, built in 1896, is open for tours from 11 am to 7 pm, and the Open Mic portion is from 4-7 pm. Musicians and audience sit in the old baggage area, complete with antique baggage carts, tools, and various memorabilia. Spillover seating is outside on the platform, with tables, chairs, and canopies.
Event organizer Marcia Sutherland said, “It’s great to welcome everyone back from the winter break and we look forward to seeing new faces and hearing new music”. Several musicians played original songs, as well as old favorites.
