GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – Greenbrier County Schools held the annual Battle of the Books competitions this week. It was the 33rd year for elementary school competitions and the 18th for middle school competitions. Students at all 9 Greenbrier County elementary and 2 middle schools plus 3 Pocahontas County elementaries and 2 middle school teams battled it out on Monday and Tuesday this week.  This competition involves students reading 6 books and then competing in a “quiz bowl” type game.

ELEMENTARY Winners—Lewisburg Elementary 

 Alysha Kahn, Brack McClung, Stella Rodebaugh, Archer Ward, Dashiell Ward

Alternate—Milyn Neumann

Other team members—Andrelyn Coleman, Larie Coleman, Taylor Huffman, Ayaan Patel, Ishann Patel

Coach—Heather Stickler

ELEMENTARY Runners Up—Alderson Elementary

Hadley Adkins,  Evie Alderson,  Annie Byers,  Kenleigh Dolin,  Raylin Stidom

Alternate—Jack Kelly

Coaches– Andrea Sloan and  Alicia Utterback

MIDDLE SCHOOL  Winners—Eastern Middle School Unbeatables

Emil Applegate, Chaya Thiab, Eden Trent, Adalyn Wallington, Arabella Webb

Coaches—John Freeman, Teresa Koon, Jennifer McCallister,  Brindi Nida,  Eleonore Sams, Hannah Yost

MIDDLE SCHOOL Runners up—Marlinton Middle School Copperheads

Eli Beezley,  Draydon Cassell, Silas Dean, Wade Goldizen,  Karis Lowe
