FRANKFORD W.Va. (WVDN) – The Ladies of the Henning Church of God held their regular monthly meeting, Tuesday, April 8, in the church fellowship hall. Carole Spencer presided and Cindy Fleshman led in prayer. The ladies provided the following report:
Dyan Hefner presented the devotion, “And the Women Also,” with scripture reference, Luke 23:49-55 and Luke 24:4-7. When you think about the crucifixion, what do you think about? Most people think about the men, such as the roman soldiers, Pilate, and Jesus and not about the women. The women were beholding, looking, and following Jesus from Galilee. Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary, the mother of James loved him. These women cared for him and they were afraid. It was a very emotional time. They had time to think about everything and ponder. They pondered after Joseph took the body of Jesus to the tomb. They were up close taking in every detail. They wanted to make sure his body was taken care of. The crucifixion weighed heavily on them. The last time they heard his voice. They pondered all Christ went through. He saved us from our sins. They were prepared with spices and ointments for his body. They were perplexed about what to do with the task at hand and circumstances changed. The body was gone. They were propelled to action after the angels told them that Christ had risen. God provides answers just at the right time. This is one thing that gives us hope is the risen Savior. Everything hinges on this event. You will experience all types of emotion sitting at the feet of Jesus. Tale a new look at the words of Jesus. It was a long road to calvary. How do you know the Christ of resurrection?
Barb Seldomridge brought the missionary education report on Stanley and Marion Hoffman. They were missionaries to Zambia, Africa. They both helped to plant 8 churches in Africa for the Church of God Missions. They were both ordained ministers. He published 8 books on his life in Africa. They both received Doctorates from 2 universities. Stanley passed away in 2023 and Marion passed away in 2024. They were both over 90 years old. They both believed in, “Angels watching over me,” with scripture reference Psalms 91:11. They were in Uganda in 1983. It was a war-torn country. One night, they both were woken up at two in the morning with scratching in the office. They were staying in the guest house. When they checked in the office, the glass had been removed and the screen had been cut. The security guard had slept through the incident. Marion had a vision that God was watching and horse-like animals kept reappearing toward the gate and the house. She told the security guard what God had revealed to her and he had been protecting them. Another time, Stanley was out of town. Two men with guns were coming over the gate. She began praying and the two men left hurriedly. After Stanley came home God gave him a vision. He saw four figures in white standing in front of the house guarding it. That is why the two men fled. Angels were always watching over them and protecting them.
