MAXWELTON W.Va. (WVDN) – Sarah Moloney, Executive Director of Shepherd’s Center of Greenbrier Valley, was the guest speaker for the March meeting of the Maxwelton Ruritan Club.
She explained to the members all the services that the Shepherd’s Center provides to the local community. Once a week, they prepare “Gwen’s Meals” and deliver them to different areas in the county. In 2024 over 8,500 meals were prepared and 35 volunteer drivers were dispatched over 17,00 miles throughout the county. This is made possible by 26 partner organizations and local congregations.
Along with Gwen’s meals, the Center offers opportunities for seniors to enjoy fellowship with each other, such as Adventures in Learning, Lunch and Learn and Coffee Talk. They also organize Tai Chi, water aerobics and armchair yoga for those interested in living a healthy lifestyle. In addition to the activities for fellowship, the center provides resources for helping those in need of wheelchair ramps, door replacements and other small services. She conveyed to the members of the Maxwelton club that Shepherd’s Center is always looking for volunteers, and several of the club members already help in some way.
The April meeting of the Maxwelton Ruritan Club is Thursday, April 24, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Henning Church of God. We are currently recruting new members, so please let us know if you would like to learn about the Ruritan organization and the local Maxwelton Club. We would love to meet you!
