FAIRLEA- It took just five innings to do so, but the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans still got it done.

After scoring nine runs in the first two innings, East had the cushion needed to defeat the Bluefield Lady Beavers 14-6 on a cool night in Fairlea.

Bluefield went up 1-0 in the top of the first, but their slim lead didn’t last long.

With one girl on in the bottom half for the Spartans, Haylee Heaster tripled to right field which scored Collins. The next batter, Liz Wooding singled Heaster home on a shot to center field. Wooding would score on a passed ball a couple batters later as East led 4-1 after the first.

The top of the order started the second frame for Greenbrier East and they were at it again. Reagan Cline singled to lead off, then stole second and third base, and finally scored on an RBI groundout from Norah Ambler. Later in the inning, Maddie Baker found her a good pitch to hit and ripped a 2-run double that scored Wooding and Jenna Groves. Once the Beavers finally got the third out, East had taken a 9-1 lead.

Down 10-1 to start the fourth inning, the Beavers battled back with five runs and refused to go away.

However, East (6-4) scored four more over their final two at-bats–the game winner scored by Lacy Patriacca– and sealed their five-inning victory.

Heaster had a good game and went 2-2 with a triple, scored three runs, and had one RBI. Cline was 2-2 and scored three runs and Collins went 2-3 with two runs and an RBI. Baker also drove in two runs and Wooding scored two.

Collins also picked up the win on the mound. She allowed four earned runs in five innings of work.

The Beavers (1-6) were led by Taylor Mabry who was 2-3 with two RBIs.

East will play a double header on the road this Friday against Buffalo at 3:00 PM and West Muskingum at 5:15.
