CHARMCO – The West Virginia Sports Writers Association released their Class A All-State basketball team on Monday and a Greenbrier West Cavalier found his way onto the elite roster. Colton Dunbar, a junior forward, earned Honorable Mention status for his efforts.

Dunbar tied for the team lead in scoring with 9.8 points per game, but the average doesn’t paint a complete picture. After posting double doubles in both games against Webster County, Dunbar asserted himself as a leader on the team and scored in double digits in each of the Cavaliers’ last four games. Dunbar poured in a career high 24 points at Pikeview to start the four-game streak. After a 12-point night against James Monroe, Dunbar ended the season with a pair of double-doubles that included a 21-point, 16 rebound night against Pocahontas County and a 14-point, 12 rebound effort to end the season against Mt. View. At 69.8%, Dunbar led the Cavaliers in field goal percentage.

Dunbar was also the team leader in rebounds with 152 on the season. His 16 rebounds in the regular season finale were one shy of his career-high in that department. Dunbar pulled down 70 offensive boards and cleaned the glass for 82 defensive rebounds.

Dunbar’s defensive stat line went on to read 29 deflections, 22 steals, and 14 blocked shots.

Greenbrier West head basketball coach Jared Robertson had nothing but praise for his junior big man.

“Colton’s game really progressed from the beginning of the season to the end. He stepped up to become a leader both on the floor and in the locker room. I’m anxious to see how much he improves from his junior year to his senior year. He has all the tools to be a dominant force for us next season and his play will be a major key to our success. I’m very pleased that the WVSWA recognized his efforts this year.”

This is Dunbar’s second postseason basketball award as he was an Honorable Mention selection to the Coalfield Conference Class A team following the 2023-24 season. Dunbar’s selection to the All-State team is the 86th all-state designation for a Greenbrier West Cavalier in school history.
