PRINCETON- The Greenbrier East Spartans picked up an important victory on Wednesday night, April 2 with an 8-0 win over the Princeton Tigers.

East’s Layne Lambert was good on the mound, they picked up some timely hits and took advantage of six Tiger errors to win in shutout fashion.

The Spartans got on the board first in the second inning when Zion Detko reached base on an error and Graham Brewster crossed home plate. It was the second miscue for the Tigers in the inning and East took a 1-0 lead.

East scored another unearned run in the fourth on another Princeton error, this time with Detko doing the scoring. That made it 2-0 after four innings.

That would have been enough for the Spartans to win, but unknown at the time, they added some insurance runs just to be on the safe side.

Zion Detko hit a 2-run double in the fifth and Nelson Lynch followed that with an RBI triple that scored Detko.

The Spartans put two more runs on the board in the seventh and sealed the deal rather easily.

East had just six hits on the night.

Lambert pitched four innings, gave up just one hit, and had strikeouts while earning the victory. Eli Green and Brady May each came on relief to finish things off.

On offense, Detko (2-4, three runs, 2 RBIs) and Lynch (2-3, two runs, RBI) led the way.

The Spartans (7-2) will look to stay perfect on their current road trip when they travel to Ripley this Friday, April 4.
