Charleston, W.Va. (WVDN) – The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) is pleased to announce Lauryn Coffman, a junior from Huntington High School (Cabell County), as the winner of the 2025 Arts Alive Poster Design Contest. Coffman’s design will be the featured promotional poster for the upcoming event. Her design was selected from 154 student submissions.

The WVDE will host students from around the state for the 19th annual Arts Alive program on May 2, 2025, at the West Virginia Culture Center. It will showcase student artwork and live performances ranging from visual arts to dance, music and theater.

Arts Alive supports arts education programs by providing the community a venue to celebrate the arts, to honor inspired teaching and to applaud the work of young artists.

“The arts create a robust and well-rounded educational experience for students through creative outlets. These content areas are important because they engage students in team-building and critical thinking skills and self-expression,” said State Superintendent of Schools Michele L. Blatt. “Lauryn’s artwork demonstrates the attention to detail and passion arts education instills in students. We are excited to celebrate her and her peers from across the state.”

The Arts Alive exhibit opens at 6 p.m. followed by live performances at 7 p.m. on May 2.
