FAIRLEA W.Va. (WVDN) – If you are skilled at gardening, you have a ‘green thumb.’ If you’re an expert at it, you own and operate a greenhouse. Tim and Barbara Nickell, owners of The Window Box Greenhouse, recently announced their grand opening set for Tuesday, April 1, at 9562 Seneca Trail South in Fairlea.

Formerly F&F Farm Supply, the name and ownership may be changing but Nickell and his wife aim to continue the legacy that’s been decades in the making. “We want to carry on what Walt, the original owner, has worked 35 years to build,” says Tim Nickell. “Walt is retiring, and we are taking over the business and changing the name. I told him that when he was ready to retire, I would take over,” Nickell adds. “He’s always had outstanding products and we just want to carry that on.”

With a selection of decorative hanging baskets, vegetable plants and even select gardening tools, Tim and Barbara are eager to start the growing season. “I anticipate our tomatoes and hanging baskets will be among the best sellers,” Tim says. “We have a variety of tomatoes, beans, corn, seed potatoes, squash, strawberries, etc. We will also have the same brand of soil that we use in our flats available for sale, and it has all the good stuff you need to get a healthy start,” he continues. “And if you need a specific gardening tool, just ask and we’ll do all we can to find it for you.”

While many enjoy gardening for obvious reasons, including the convenience of having a fresh tomato or perfectly sized squash, others find the process intimidating. “If you take your time, gardening isn’t hard and if you do it right, it’s very relaxing,” Nickell suggests. “Most people just throw stuff out, but you also have to enjoy the opportunity of watching things grow. Enjoy the process. You get to reap the rewards by looking at them every day,” he adds.

Both educators, Tim and Barbara have built longstanding relationships with people in the area. “We are very friendly people and we love our community,” Tim says. “We want people to stop in, have a great time and just enjoy their experience shopping for plants.”

Beyond the spring growing season, The Window Box Greenhouse will be open this fall with a selection of mums, pumpkins and a variety of decorations, including gourds and cornstalks.

The Window Box Greenhouse will be open beginning Tuesday, April 1, 2025. They are located at 9562 Seneca Trail South in Fairlea, West Virginia. The greenhouse will be open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. For more information, call 304-667-7125 or e-mail mowhawk1999@yahoo.com. If you’d like to follow them on social media, search for ‘The Window Box Greenhouse’ on Facebook. An official website is currently being constructed and will be announced at a later date.
