MAXWELTON W.Va. (WVDN) – The Maxwelton Ruritan Club recently contributed to the Greenbrier East High School Spartan Marching Band’s effort to represent the state of West Virginia at the Pearl Harbor Day of Remembrance. Jim Allder, band director, and his wife, Tasha, attended the club’s January meeting and spoke about the upcoming trip in December.
The Spartan marching band will be participating in commemorating the 80th Anniversary of WWII by marching in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade. While on the island, the students will visit the Pearl Harbor museum, tour the island and experience Polynesian culture. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a great honor for the band members.
Allder explained all the fundraising efforts associated with raising the necessary funds. The Maxwelton Ruritan Club operates an ice cream concession stand during the State Fair of West Virginia. The members, volunteers and patrons make it possible for the club to keep all the proceeds from the ice cream sales in the community. The Maxwelton Ruritan Club also provides scholarships to local high school seniors, donates to other community service organizations and participates in Adopt A Highway. Most recently, the club has paid for the installation of eight fire hydrants in the Maxwelton area.
