HAMPTON
Roy Hampton, 92, of Abingdon, VA and formerly of Lewisburg, WV, died of a heart attack on April 5, 2021.
Roy was born in Mount Gay, WV to the late Walter and Reva Hampton. Roy and his wife, Katie, of 71 years, were members of the Lewisburg United Methodist Church where they served as volunteers for many years, before moving to Abingdon, VA to live with family in May of 2015.
Roy was a retired insurance adjuster for Nationwide Insurance Company. Roy was known for having an outgoing personality and never met a stranger, he was an avid golfer and life member of the U.S. JayCees.
Roy served our country in the United States Army. While deployed in Korea, he served north of the 38th parallel in heavy combat. Roy earned three bronze camp stars, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service medal, ROK unit press citation, and dist unit citation. Roy was in Battery C 176th AFA Bn and served as Gunner and Battery Clerk and earned the rank of Sergeant.
Roy is survived by his wife, Katie Hampton of Abingdon, VA; son, Mike (Vicki) Hampton of Jacksonville, FL; and son, Bill (Darlene) Hampton of Abingdon, VA; grandchildren, Andrew (Sarah) Hampton, Courtney Hampton, Ginny (Walter) Lash, Jaime Pulling; and great-grandchildren, Brixton, Hendrix, Brooke, Bradley, Jarrod, Bryannah, Trey.
Funeral services to be held at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at 2 p.m., and a visitation service to be held before at 1 p.m on Wednesday, April 7th. Friends are encouraged to attend the services.
McCraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of the arrangements.
