ARLINGTON, TX– Several weeks ago, we did a short story on youngster Eli Honaker (you can view it here: Eli Honaker Selected as Patient Ambassador, Will Travel with Clemson Baseball Team – West Virginia Daily News) where he was selected as the Patient Ambassador by the Greenville, SC Shriner’s Hospital.
As a result of that selection, He earned the opportunity to travel with the Clemson Tigers baseball team for their big season-opening tournament in Arlington, Texas at the Texas Rangers Stadium.
That tournament was played this past weekend.
Eli reportedly had a fabulous weekend and was accompanied by his father Scott Honaker at the Shriners Children College Showdown. Eli was not only an honorary captain for the Tigers, but they also added him to the official Clemson Baseball roster. He got a Clemson baseball glove with his name on it and he spent all weekend in the dugout with the team for all three Clemson games in the tournament.
The Tigers defeated Oklahoma State and Arizona, but lost on Sunday in their final game to Ole Miss. The Greenville, SC Shriners paid for Scott and Eli’s weekend.
As mentioned in the previous article, Eli has several immediate family members in the Greenbrier County area. One of those family members, his great uncle Joey, said,” It’s hard to not be a Clemson baseball fan after this.”
There are several videos on Clemson Baseball’s Facebook page that provide a deeper insight into Eli’s experience with the Tigers over the last few weeks.
