DAVIN W.Va. (WVDN) – According to the West Virginia State Police, Troopers responded to a report of shots fired on Wednesday, Feb. at approximately 12:04 p.m. When responders arrived on scene, on Amethyst Drive in Gillman Bottom, Davin Troopers reportedly “immediately encountered an active hostage situation in which the suspect, Billy Joe Porter (65-year-old white male from Davin, WV), was holding a man at gunpoint.”

According to the WVSP statement, “Troopers attempted to negotiate with the suspect and executed multiple commands for him to drop his weapon. When the hostage attempted to escape from the suspect, the suspect raised his weapon toward the hostage. Troopers responded with lethal force.”  The statement assures that Troopers and the hostage were uninjured; however, the suspect was pronounced deceased on scene.

This incident is still under investigation.
