FAIRLEA- As the Greenbrier East Spartans wrestling team prepares for a key tri meet next week at Cabell Midland against George Washington, coach Davis Solak feels his team is getting better each day and ready to step up to any new challenges they may face in upcoming matches.
Normally, it may take something astounding to get a coach’s attention, but with Solak, as long as his guys improve and do the little things, it’s something he notices.
“I feel that we are slowly improving more and more as the season progresses. Even if it’s the little things, we’re slowly building something great,” Solak said.
The coach has also been pleased with some individual performances throughout this year as well as the 100-career win teammates.
“We have a few guys that are doing well,” Solak started.
William Godby placed sixth recently at the WSAZ Invitational. That tournament has the majority of in state teams in it and teams from, Virginia, New Jersey, Ohio, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania. Also, guys that have picked up their 100th win this year have been William Godby, Parker Hale, Aiden Fleshman, and Kaden Stone. But overall, I’m impressed with the little things we continue to build,” he added.
Although the Spartans did not qualify for the West Virginia Team State Duals this weekend at the State Fairgrounds, Solak knows the tri meet next week will be a challenge. He also hopes fans come out this postseason which starts later this month and help push his wrestlers to victory and maybe even more than that.
“Come out and support these guys and girls at regionals February 22nd at Woodrow Wilson,” Solak finished.
