RONCEVERTE W.Va. (WVDN) – Hunter Adkins first got into baking from working at Kroger in the bakery and deli. At this same time, Adkins was going to college and babysitting for a church family. The wife of the family Adkins was babysitting for ran a home bakery. She would invite Adkins to help her when there was spare time from babysitting. Adkins explained that watching her pour so much passion into her work and seeing the joy she brought to her customers resonated inside. Adkins went on to explain that baking was the perfect outlet for making people happy, which is a favorite thing to do. As time went on, Adkins discovered being in the kitchen was a rewarding, creative process and the trial and error process was much loved, especially perfecting recipes.
Cupcakes are an all-time favorite for Adkins to bake. Both individuals and the pull-apart cupcakes for special occasions are equally enjoyable to make for Adkins, who really enjoys the creativity of decorating them and experimenting with new flavor combinations. Adkins said nothing too extravagant has been tried yet but new ideas and challenges are always welcome.
Since opening Little Wonders Bakery in December, best sellers have been a tie between Strawberry Crunch cookies, banana pudding cookies, and pumpkin chocolate chip cheesecake-filled cookies. Adkins says those flavors seem to resonate with the customers and the baked is thrilled they’re enjoying them so much.
Little Wonders Bakery will offer Valentine’s Day specials and post a menu on its Facebook page. Be sure to follow to stay up to date on what they’re offering. Valentine’s Day specials will be offered in various-sized packages.
Adkins explained that another unusual request that occasionally comes in is for adult-themed strawberries. To clarify, alcohol is allowed, but a more playful design is required. Adkins prefers to keep the bakery page family-friendly but will take custom orders of a fun or quirky nature that can be privately messaged.
Adkins designed an elaborate pull-apart number 2 cake in the colors of caterpillar construction equipment. The edible heavy equipment machines were made of pink chocolate. The customer asked for an entirely edible cake, which was fun.
You can find Little Wonders Bakery at 168 Landon Lane, Ronceverte.
